The Friends of the Page-Walker collaborates with several preservation partner organizations to fulfill our mission.
The Friends are an official partner organization of the Town of Cary. In particular, we work with the Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources Division, which is responsible for the operation and maintenance of historic buildings owned by the Town of Cary, most notably the Page-Walker Arts & History Center. The Town also owns The Cary Theater, Cary Arts Center, Nancy Jones House, Ivey-Ellington House, Barnabus Jones Farmstead (formerly Bartley Farm), C.F. Ferrell store and warehouses, and Good Hope Farm (formerly A. M. Howard Farm). The Friends of the Page-Walker have a permanent seat on the on the Cultural Arts Advisory Committee.
The Historic Preservation Commission works to preserve the
historical, cultural and architectural heritage of our Town for future
generations. Some of the commission's activities are identifying and recommending Cary Historic Landmarks to the Town Council and reviewing applications and holding quasi-judicial public hearings for proposed alterations to Cary’s designated Local Historic Landmarks.
Capital Area Preservation works to secure a place for our historic resources in Wake County’s
future through programs of protection, promotions and education. is a county-wide non-profit historic preservation organization. They assure the perpetual protection of many buildings by serving as the holder of preservation easements. They act as preservation consultants to local government (including Cary) and serve as the professional staff for the Wake County Historic Preservation Commission. CAP recognizes significant accomplishments in local preservation with their annual Anthemion Awards.
The Wake County Historic Preservation Commission was established in 1992 and serves most of the municipalities in the County through interlocal agreements. The commission maintains the Wake County historic survey and historic resources database. They recommend properties for designation as historic landmarks and initiate National Register of Historic Places nominations. The commission works to ensure that historic resources are recognized in county and municipal plans.
The NC State Historic Preservation Office assists private citizens, private institutions, local governments, and state and federal government agencies in the identification, evaluation, protection, and enhancement of properties that are significant in North Carolina history and archaeology. The agency carries out state and federal preservation programs and is a component of the Office of Archives and History, North Carolina Department of Cultural Resources.
Founded in 1939, Preservation North Carolina is North Carolina's only private non-profit statewide historic preservation organization. Its mission is saving historic places important to the diverse people of North Carolina. Preservation NC acquires endangered historic properties and finds purchasers willing and able to rehabilitate them.
